PDX ,OR New Theatrical Burlesque/Circus Dance ensemble seeks "Rain Dolls"

"C'est La Guerre"
is seeking 4 dancers for a new dance/performance ensemble
"The Rain Dolls".
Though rooted in burlesque style this ensemble is NOT strip
oriented.

What this is : a 5 member ensemble that embraces a vintage ( PRE-1930's) dark aesthetic -
A random selection of influences :
Victorian Circus,
Steampunk,
Weimar Cabaret,
Storyville/Southern Gothic,
VERY Vintage Fetish ( no vinyl...none....at all...ever.)
However, we will not be anchored to vintage music.
At this time we are looking to build the ensemble- as it progresses, there will be
the opportunity to perform on a solo basis -and even explore burlesque performance.
right now though, we are building a solid group.
It cannot be stressed enough that this ensemble
will be themed with set characters that written for you.
You will be able to contribute-- but ultimately,the final call will be with the artistic director.

What this is not: The Pussycat Dolls ,Cutesy Retro Burlesque
or yet another underwear clad dance ensemble that prances to "Fever"--
To quote our artistic director "I'd sooner kill myself".

Qualified applicants possess:
-dance and stage experience
-an ability/willingness to be directed and choreographed and costumed.
-a high comfort level in wearing skimpy costuming.
-a willingness to shed one's usual image for a stage persona
-knowledge of Tom Waits and all he implies.( o.k. that is half true...but it is important)
-fearlessness
-a strong interest in any of the influences listed above
-an ability to commit immediately to
2 weekly rehearsals during the first month (1 weekly after the 1st show)
and at this time- 1 monthly performance ( 1st show July 3rd) .

**There is no height or weight standard
although, we are seeking one member who is 5'10 or
over and can dance well in heels.

What you get for putting up with all this:
-guaranteed pay for performances.
-the opportunity to perform in quality shows.
-the opportunity to be well promoted.
-great photos of you in fantastic costumes.

Here's one to maybe start some discussion on this tribe: Pinup girls and tattoos -- hot or not?

I am a purist -- I prefer no tattoos. I realize that tattoos are a retro-modern thing and widely accepted as such, but for me they spoil the beauty of a pinup. Less importantly, tattoos were never a part of the classic pinup look in the 50's/60's ("less" importantly because personal taste wins over historical accuracy in matters of aesthetics).

retro shoot with late 30's french car...

my name is curtis, new to this tribe though i have been a member of other model/photographer tribes for some time...

...both of my models are down with the current virus that is floating around, and i have a shoot i'd like to do this weekend...the car is a 1938 Hispano-Suiza bodied by Chapron, been sitting in a french barn for the last 40 years, we're doing a total restoration of it, but i'd like to do a shoot of the car as a final look at it in this state, and do a book...it is a paid gig...my models charge me $40 hr and i always throw in an extra hr as a tip or travel time, shoots usually run a couple hours, so figure $100 as a start...i never shoot nude, but lean towards risque a bit, and have done some nice shoots in the past i can send along...the shoot can be saturday or sunday but the car is coming apart starting next week...models with a bend towards retro will fit perfectly...

I'm making a film, that will be somewhat explicit in parts. Also, there will be imagery that needs nudity.
I am afraid that I will not be able to cut the content of the movie script, even if I find actors interested .You can e-mail me with rates, photos, questions, etc. If your an actor or actress who has worked in nudity and/or sexual situations, is comfortable with it, and would like to take on a feature narrative film as a major role please e-mail me or show up to the auditions. The two main roles are the ones that require it but there are others. I have a new movie called "Aberrant Behavior" auditioning Sat. 1/19 3:30-6:3- at the Dark Room SF 2263 Mission off of 19th and Mission@ 3:30 - 6:30. (My first movie "the period" came out through Sub Rosa Cinema can be seen/bought at Netflix www.myspace.com/theperiodmovie, as well as various other outlets)
Aberrant Behavior, is basically about two self destructive anarchistic-y street kids who have an exaggerated form of pica, a disorder where people feel compelled to eat non-food materials, carpet, dirt, soap, drano, various chemicals, etc. as portrayed as a drug addiction. There's more to it, but that's the basic synopsis. If you can't make it to the auditions, you can send me a head shot with resume, or whatever you want. We can then decide when and where to meet.

I will be hiring for many roles, all ages (over 18) races, sizes, etc. But here are the main characters:
Main Characters:
Victor Muertos: (Mid to late twenties) Half Mexican/Half white (Half latino/half white will probably work). Black hair, down to chin and five o clock shadow. (Flexible though). Tall and thin but not too thin.
Dark, brooding, depressed, prone to long winded sarcastic, cynical rants. Living off the state for mental depression, and addiction, but eventually breaks himself from the state. He hates the state, and normal life in general. He hates almost everything. He is sort of sloppy hipster, slightly emo, slight slight slight goth meets street kid. Light or no body mod, piercings, etc. He eventually lives on the street because of choice.He falls in love with Aiko.

Aiko Zumbi (18-early twenties or look like it) Half Japanese/Half German (or Japanese, or half Japanese/Half white). Shorter than Victor, thin but still slightly curvy.
Street kid with a bit of dark hippie. Has been sexually abused as a child. Prone to violence. Prone to long winded rants, or sometimes just total silence. Dark, cynical, with a very bleak view of life. Body mods, tattoo's, piercings, fine. Dreaded or colored hair fine as well. Actually preffered.
She falls in love with Victor.

Emma May (20's to 30's) Actress must be thin, because character is anorexic. Very fake, superficial, manic laughing. Very self deluded. She doesn't really see her anorexia as a problem, she think she looks great though she's obviously dieing and goes to extremes to keep herself thin. She is always dressed up elegantly and thinks of herself as a proper lady even when doing something grotesque . She is a head executive at a advertising/pr firm that she gets a Victor a brief job at, through meeting him in a class over there mutual addictions. (Brief Nudity /Partial a few times)

Caseworker Joe (30's-40's) Written has hispanic, but open. Larger guy, tall, built like a shed, a bit fat but not flabby fat. Very coarse, to the point, direct "Take no shit" kind of guy. Very normal, buys into the whole big house in the suburbs, good job, etc. He is Victor's Caseworker, and is tired of Victor's Shit, and believes he is not trying to quit. (None)

Glitters- a gay gangster rapper, take everything that's a cliche and horrible about it and flip it so that it's gay (some, will also need male models)

Pedida Muertos-Victors Mother. A nearly catatonic morally apprehensive drug addict who's always sleeping with random guys and ignoring her child (Some nudity/sexual situations can be negotiated to less)

And then random visuals, nudes for some flashback scenes (of some sort of psuedo porn the main characer shot) a girl that Victor sleeps with before he falls in love with Zumbi (requires brief nudity/sexuality) and some body part imagery that will not feature the face of the actor/actress, among other thing

Volunteers Needed For Photo Project! Please Help!

Hey my name is Kara. I'm a photography student in Boston. I'm doing a photo project for display in a local coffee shop. I'm looking for unique and open minded volunteers for the project.What makes this project unique is that all of the pictures for the project will be taken by the volunteers themselves, which enables me to have people from all over the globe involved. I'm making a collage of peoples faces hands and feet and arranging all of the pictures randomly. The whole concept of the project is to see if people who view the project can match the feet and the hands to the faces. And since the people for the project will be taking the pictures themselves, no two pictures will be alike. If you're interested in volunteering I would just need a picture of your face, Two pictures of your hands one picture of the top of your hands, the other picture the palms. And two pictures of your feet, one of the tops of your feet, the other one the soles. All you'd have to do is email me the pictures and I'll add them to the project. If you'd like I can email you a picture of the finished project. I am hoping that the project turns out good, as I think it's a cool concept that's never been attempted before. Looking for a Photographer

I am looking for a talented student photographer with a low ego-factor to do a shoot with. I've done a lot of TFP and paid work as a model, but I need these shots for something specific and so I'm happy to pay $200 to get that without dealing with a super-charged creative ego. The shoot will be fetish-themed but non-explicit and will be in a loft in downtown Los Angeles this week or next week (ASAP basically). Hopefully these will turn out to be photos you can use in your portfolio as well.

So kids...
I’ve been keeping my eye to the ground to see what we needs to be doing with regards to the changes happening here at tribe.
We can either remain public and delete all of the photo's that involve nudity (booooo!!!)
Or
We can go private and leave all the pics and dirty commentary (wait that's another tribe I’m in, this tribe is fairly tame ;) though noone would be able to find us

I say go private or if we can, leave the pics untill we get flagged and then only remove them as we have to, if I keep having to remove pic's then we'll be forced to go private. I tend to be of the wait and see variety…

APHRODISIA: Art of the Female Form

I hope you don't mind me blowing my own horn but the "Happy Rider" illustration I posted up made it in this years edition of APHRODISIA: Art of the Female Form. APHRODISIA is an annual published collection of Pin-Up and Nude art edited by artist Craig Elliott. My piece made the cut from about 1200 submissions for this edition. Judging this year were Joe Chiodo, Spencer Davis, Craig Elliott, Frank Frazetta Jr., Greg Hildebrandt, and retailer Bud Plant.

"Happy Rider" was one of three I had originally submitted to this contest. I'll post up the other two that didn't make the cut so you can see what you think of them. Though I'm happy to make the book I'm surprised that none of the other ones were chosen. But then I am the artist and such the very last person to have an unbiased opinion.

First, let me apologize for sending this to everyone... I tried to mail the moderator of this tribe but it said "insufficient privledges", whatever that means.

I happily joined this sexy tribe and then had serious second thoughts once I looked at karmen and tami la roche's gross out porno shots on the first page of the pictures section. I'm really glad I went to page 2 and saw that the site actually catered to true artistic classy pinup babes.

Is anyone else grossed out by this? If you are, I would ask the moderator to consider removing these pictures, or at least put them on on the last page. I love getting inspiration from the photo albums of many of my tribes for classic pinup poses and outfits, but I don't think I can handle having to look at those initial pictures again.

Dr. Mitzva was sitting in his yard enjoying the early morning sun. Birds were singing, children were laughing on their way to school, and inside the house Mrs. Goldengreen was cheerfully dusting.
"What a lovely, happy day," he murmured. "Everything is sunny and smiley, just the way a day should be. I hope no one calls me today. I'd like to catch up on my reading."

Just then, the phone rang very loudly. Dr. Mitzva picked up the receiver and listened. He sighed. "Very well," he said. "I suppose I shall have to come." He hung up.

"Mrs. Goldengreen," he called, "could you kindly prepare my travelling bag for me? And I think I shall need a saddle. Do I happen to have an old saddle somewhere?"

"A saddle? Can't you use your bicycle? Besides, I thought you were going to spend the day in the garden, reading."

"I thought so too," sighed Dr. Mitzva again, "but my friends the Happy Sun Indians need me. It seems they aren't so happy or sunny anymore. In fact, the entire tribe is walking around under a cloud. They haven't smiled or laughed since it snowed last winter! Some of them are even crying. Imagine - Happy Sun Indians crying! I shall have to take a look and see what I can do. Did you find a saddle?"

Mrs. Goldengreen didn't find a saddle but she did find a book she handed to Dr. Mitzva. "Here," she said, "take this with you. It might help."

Just then a rider and two horses were seen coming down Cobblestone Lane. Windows opened up, children cheered, drivers honked and waved. Indians on horses were not an everyday sight in Cedarville.

"Is there a circus in town?" asked one excited little boy.

"Naw!" said his brother. "It's probably another one of Dr. Mitzva's friends. But he's the saddest looking Indian I ever saw. He looks like he's going to cry!"

And indeed he did. He stopped at Dr. Mitzva's house and waited for the doctor to put on his gray bowler hat and straighten his red dotted bow tie. He picked up Dr. Mitzva's bags, and then picked up Dr. Mitzva himself and sat him on top of the second horse.

"It's a good thing you brought a saddle," said Dr. Mitzva. "Mine seems to have disappeared." The Indian nodded and wiped a tear from his nose. All along the road, people saw the tall, feather-dressed Indian and the short bowler-hatted doctor. They smiled. Dr. Mitzva smiled back. The Indian sniffed.

At the reservation, two hundred gloomy Indians stood in a circle and waited for Dr. Mitzva. Chief Happy Face began to cry.

"Our medicine man is strong," he said, "but not strong enough to cure our sad-sickness. Perhaps your medicine can help."

"Whatever is the matter?" asked Dr. Mitzva. "You have always been the world's happiest Indians. You make everyone smile. What happened?"

"Nothing," sobbed the Chief. "It's just that there are so many things we want but don't have. So many things to do which we can't possibly do. So many places to go that we'll never get to. It's just so very, very sad. So much to want and so little to actually get and have and do!"

"I only have two outfits of clothing," said Little Eyes. "One for everyday and one for ceremonies. And I only have one horse. My friends in other tribes have five or six horses each! My clothes are always being washed and my horse is always tired. I need more clothes to wear and more horses to ride!"

"I don't need clothes or horses," said Biggest Brother. "I want to sing in the opera but everyone laughs at me. They say I have no voice and I can't sing on tune. All I can do is play the drums and chant Indian music. It's so boring."

"And I want to be an important leader, like Chief Happy Face. But I have no tribe to lead," complained Susan WindStorm.

More and more Indians stood in line, each waiting to tell Dr. Mitzva what they wanted and what they didn't have. When they were all finished, Mrs. White-Moon-Face asked, "How can we be happy if no one has what he or she wants?" Dr. Mitzva pulled on his moustache and pushed back his hat.

"My dear friends," he finally said, "the solution is simple. You must all want exactly what you have! If you aren't happy with what you have, all your moons will be spent crying and complaining and the sad-sickness will spread. Little Eyes should clean his clothing and take care of his loyal horse. Biggest Brother should practice his drums and chants. He is the best drum player and chanter in the tribe. Indian music isn't boring at all, and isn't he lucky that Indian songs don't have to be sung on tune? And Susan WindStorm is already an important Indian chief. She teaches all the tribe's children in school, and leads them after school and arranges and decides everything for the tribe's holiday celebrations. Why, without Susan, the Happy Sun Indians would never have a happy party or feast or celebration to go to!"

"What about me?" asked Chief Happy Face. "I'm sad too."

"Why are you sad?" asked Dr. Mitzva.

"Because everyone in my tribe is so gloomy and dismal and gray!"

"Then let's make the gloomy gray all bright and shiny," said Dr. Mitzva. "Let Little Eyes and everyone else prepare their best holiday clothing and brush the horses until they glow. Let Biggest Brother call out the drummers and the dancers and the band. Let Susan WindStorm organize a feast. And let's all get ready to give thanks for who we are and what we have. If each of us wants exactly what he has, no one will want anything else and everyone will be happy! And you will continue to be the smiley chief of the world's happiest tribe!"

The next day, two hundred Sun Happy Indians gathered in front of their circle of wigwams. Drums beat, chants were sung, Indian's danced and ate and told stories and passed the Friendship Pipe from one to the other. Finally, Dr. Mitzva held up his hand for silence. He took out Mrs. Goldengreen's book and began to read in a loud voice. The title of the book was: How to be Happy With Whatever You Have - 613 Funny Jokes for Unhappy Indians and Other People.

When Dr. Mitzva reached the last joke, Chief Happy Face was smiling brightly. "Ah," he said, "I was right. Your medicine is truly strong and good."

"It's not my medicine," Dr. Mitzva insisted. "Being happy with what we have is a mitzva, and all mitzvos are good, healthy medicine!"

2006 Calendar Shoot, Models Wanted.

I'm putting together a calendar for 2006 featuring friends, acquaintances, and tribe people in and around the SF Bay Area. I'm searching for girls that don't look like a swamp monsters, possess the ability to return phone calls and have a remote sense of style. Prior modeling experience is not necessary, but it certainly doesn't hurt. I have done a handful of shoots already, and here are some examples (pre-photoshop).

The purpose of this calendar shoot is:
1. I'll have finished a large creative project for my portfolio by year's end
2. I'll have a cheap and easy christmas gift to give out to my friends.

The photo shoot will be held in Fremont or Sunnyvale if we agree on a studio shoot. Outside shoots will depend on the location, obviously. I can't do this project alone, so I'm enlisting the help of my friend and collaborator, David. He'll be helping me with editing, setup and shooting. The calendar itself will be created and sold off cafepress.com to save me time and money. All models featured in the calendar will receive a free copy of the finished calendar as a thank you. The shoot will be tfcd (Time For CD) because I"m a broke college student. Your costume will depend on what you have already, or what you're willing to buy. Since you're basically doing this shoot for free, I'm giving you large amounts of creative input to the shoot. I want you to OWN the month you're featured in and want you to be happy with the final product. I really only need one visually interesting shot for the calendar, but I'm more than willing to do any other type of shot that you'd be interested in for your own portfolio.

The calendar will be non-nude, but I'm not exactly shooting an amish calendar either. I will not tell you to do anything you're not comfortable with, but letting me know what you're willing to do and what you're not willing to do during the interview process will be mutually beneficial. I'm pushing for sultry, but I will do my best to make you feel comfortable. Which means if you'd like to bring a friend along with you to the shoot to feel safe, be my guest. Boyfriends are not allowed. There's two photographers involved with this shoot already, I don't need ANOTHER director with his own agenda.

There is going to be a whole site(whole domain) dedicated to PINUPS! But TOTAL NUDE to partially nude ,The way pinups were ment to be. This will be a great place for the ladies to promo themselves and hopefully be discovered!!
